Does upgrading to an annual plan count against my transaction limit?
Short answer: No. Upgrading to an annual plan and importing prior-year transaction history will not push you into a higher pricing tier.
We often hear this concern from customers who are considering upgrading from a monthly plan to an annual plan (or signing up for an annual plan from the start). They worry that, because an annual plan triggers Seller Ledger to go back and import up to a full prior tax year of data, all of those imported transactions will count against their plan's monthly transaction limit and bump them up to a more expensive tier.
That's not how our billing works.
How transaction limits actually work
Seller Ledger's pricing tiers are based on monthly transaction volume, not the total number of transactions ever imported into your account. Each month, we look at the transactions that were imported during that month and compare the count to your plan's limit.
So if you sign up for an annual Starter plan in March and we go back and pull in a full year of prior history, those older transactions are not lumped into your March total. They are counted in the months in which they originally occurred.

What this means in practice
- Importing prior year data won't trigger a surcharge. Backfilled history from January of last year (or wherever we're able to start) is spread across those prior months, not dumped into the current month.
- You won't be forced to upgrade tiers. Even if a few of those prior months happened to exceed your plan's limit, our [extra volume pricing](https://support.sellerledger.com/article/24-what-happens-if-i-go-over-the-transaction-limit-for-my-plan) only applies going forward, based on your current monthly activity.
- You can always see your monthly counts. Go to Settings → Billing and expand the section showing your recent monthly transaction counts. This is the best way to confirm what's actually being measured.
What does count toward your monthly limit
To be clear about what we do and don't count, take a look at our article on billable transactions. The short version:
- Imported transactions that affect the balance of a connected account (orders, refunds, payouts, deposits, withdrawals, transfers) count.
- Manually entered transactions, order-level detail, and small marketplace fees (like eBay/Etsy insertion and ad fees) do not count.
