Why hasn't my bank account updated in a few days?

If you've noticed that the "last updated" date on one of your connected bank, credit card, or PayPal accounts hasn't changed in a few days, don't worry — this is usually expected behavior, not a sign that something is broken.

How our bank connections actually work

Seller Ledger partners with a company called Plaid to securely connect to your bank, credit card, and PayPal accounts. But unlike a real-time app that constantly checks your bank for updates, our connection works a little differently:

  • Plaid tells us when there's something new. Rather than us reaching out to your bank on a set schedule, Plaid notifies Seller Ledger when new transactions are available. We then import those transactions into your account.
  • No new transactions = no update. If your bank hasn't posted any new activity since the last import, Plaid has no reason to notify us — and the "last updated" date on your dashboard won't change.

Why the "last updated" date matters (and why it sometimes doesn't)

The "last updated" date reflects the last time Seller Ledger actually imported new transactions from that account. So:

  • If you've had a quiet stretch with no purchases or deposits, the date can sit unchanged for several days — and that's perfectly normal.
  • If new transactions have posted at your bank but you're not seeing them in Seller Ledger yet, Plaid may simply not have notified us of them yet. In most cases, they'll show up within a day or so.
  • Some banks are better than others at making new transaction data available quickly. This can vary from institution to institution.

When to be concerned

Most of the time, a stale "last updated" date just means there hasn't been any new activity. But if it's been more than a few days and you know you've had transactions post at your bank, here are a few things to check:

  1. Log into your bank directly to confirm the transactions have actually posted (pending transactions typically aren't imported).
  2. Check for a reconnect prompt. Occasionally, banks require you to re-authenticate the connection. If that's the case, you'll see a "please reconnect" link next to the account on your dashboard.
  3. Give it another day or two. In most cases, the transactions will come through on their own.

If it's been more than a few days, the transactions are clearly posted at your bank, and there's no reconnect prompt, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] and we'll take a look.

A quick note on real-time expectations

Because Seller Ledger is an accounting and bookkeeping tool — not a real-time banking app — we're focused on making sure your books are accurate, not on showing every transaction the moment it happens. For up-to-the-minute balances or pending activity, your bank's own app or website is always the best source.
