How do I upgrade my annual plan to a higher tier?

As your business grows, you may find that you're consistently importing more transactions each month than your current Seller Ledger plan allows. The good news is that upgrading to a higher annual plan is quick and easy - but there are a few things worth understanding before you make the switch, so you can decide whether upgrading is actually the right move for you.

First: do you even need to upgrade?

Before upgrading, it's worth knowing that Seller Ledger does not force you to move up a tier just because you've exceeded your monthly transaction limit. Instead, in any month where you go over by more than 10%, we simply charge you the difference between your current plan and the next tier up. (See What happens if I go over the transaction limit for my plan? for the full details.)

That means:

  • If you only go over your limit a few months a year (for example, during the holiday rush), you'll likely save money by staying on your current plan and paying the small surcharge during your busy months.
  • If you're going over your limit consistently, month after month, upgrading to a higher annual plan will save you money overall — because annual plans are priced at the equivalent of 10 months (giving you 2 months free compared to paying monthly).

A quick way to check your recent transaction volume is to go to Settings → Billing and expand the section showing your monthly transaction counts.

How to upgrade your annual plan

If you've decided upgrading makes sense, here's how to do it:

  1. Log into your Seller Ledger account.
  2. Go to Settings → Billing, or click this link directly: https://app.sellerledger.com/settings/billing.
  3. Click the Change plan link on the left.
  4. Choose the annual plan based on your new transaction volume.
  5. Confirm the change.

That's it. Your new plan takes effect immediately.

What to expect when you upgrade

Upgrading an annual plan works a little differently than you might expect, so here's what actually happens behind the scenes:

  • Your upgrade acts like a brand-new subscription at the higher price. Rather than simply bumping your existing subscription up for the remainder of the year, Seller Ledger starts a fresh annual subscription at the new rate on the day you upgrade.
  • You'll be credited for the unused portion of your current subscription. The remaining value of your existing plan is applied as a credit toward the new one, so you aren't paying twice for the same time period.
  • Your next renewal date will be one year from today. Because the upgrade starts a new annual subscription, your renewal date shifts to the anniversary of the upgrade — not the anniversary of your original signup.

A quick example

Let's say you signed up for the Starter annual plan ($100/year) three months ago, and you've decided to upgrade to the Growth annual plan ($200/year). When you upgrade:

  • Seller Ledger credits you for the 9 months of unused Starter plan time (roughly $75).
  • You're charged the Growth annual rate ($200), minus that credit — so about $125 today.
  • Your new renewal date becomes one year from today.
